Taxonomy Comments: Of unclear status, habitat and range, owing to uncertainties in the concept and application of the name. A taxon originally described from a cultivated plant in Europe, assumed native from central SC s. to n. FL but few naturally-occurring plants have been located which match the type specimen. A hybrid origin is suspected, probably involving some member of the Pulcherrimae or Intricatae series. The name C. flava Aiton has been misapplied to members of the Lacrimatae and Apricae series for more than a century.
