Crataegus ×rufula Sargent (pro sp.). Florida Mayhaw, Rufous Mayhaw. Phen: Feb-Mar; Apr-May. Hab: Flatwoods ponds, river swamps. Dist: Sw. GA and adjacent Panhandle FL and s. AL.
ID notes:Reddish pubescence is typical on abaxial surface of leaves, particularly on veins and in vein axils.
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: Intermediate in morphology between C. aestivalis and C. opaca and an assumed intraserial hybrid; the range is at the interface of the two presumed parental mayhaw species. This taxon has been shown to be a triploid, while C. aestivalis and C. rufula are known diploids.
