Crataegus ×thermopegaea E.J. Palmer. Hot Springs Hawthorn. Phen: Apr-May; Sep-Oct. Hab: Rocky woodlands, thickets. Dist: Endemic to AR; described from near Hot Springs, Garland Co.
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: A rare, ambiguous taxon that is not known to be represented by collection since 1925, possibly extinct. The combination of localized occurrence, pubescent leaves, 10-20 stamens, reddish anthers and 2-3 pyrenes with slightly pitted inner sides suggest an interserial hybrid origin, possibly involving C. calpodendron and a member of the Intricatae series.
Synonymy: = Crataegus thermopegaea E.J.Palmer – Palmer (1926), Phipps, O’Kennon, & Lance (2003)
