Crataegus lassa Beadle var. lassa . Sandhill Hawthorn. Phen: Late Mar-Apr; Aug-Sep. Hab: Pine forests, oak-pine scrub, upland scrublands, xeric woodlands, especially in deep sand and soils of rapid drainage. Dist: Central NC south to n. FL, west to s. AL.

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: Crataegus lassa and its varieties as defined here include a range of minor species described by Beadle; all have been synonymized under the C. flava Aiton name in many previous flora treatments. What may represent intermediates are Crataegus meridiana Beadle (possibly of mixed origin with Crataegus ravenelii Sargent), Crataegus inopina Beadle (intermediate of varieties lassa and recurva), and Crataegus vicana Beadle.
