*Dryopteris filix-mas (Linnaeus) Schott ssp. filix-mas . European Male Fern. Phen: Late Jun-early Sep. Hab: Scoured streambanks in suburban areas. Dist: Native of n. Europe. Reported (as D. filix-mas) as naturalizing in suburban VA (Arlington County and City of Alexandria) (Simmons et al. (2020).

Origin/Endemic status: Europe

Taxonomy Comments: The identity of these plants within the Dryopteris filix-mas complex is uncertain and speculative; they are placed here for now, provisionally.
