Hexastylis species 1 . Buck Creek Heartleaf. Phen: May. Hab: Serpentine barrens. Dist: Endemic to the Buck Creek Serpentine Barren, Clay County, NC.

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: At the Buck Creek Serpentine Barren (Clay County, NC) a plant resembling Hexastylis ruthii carpets several hundred hectares, in association with Packera serpenticola, Thalictrum macrostylum, Sporobolus heterolepis, and Symphyotrichum rhiannon; various morphological differences of this population, especially the rhizomatous habit and the prominent style extensions, suggest that it may represent an additional undescribed taxon.
