Opuntia phaeacantha Engelmann. Tulip Prickly-pear. Phen: May-Jun; Aug-Oct. Hab: Limestone glades, westwards more general in rocky, sandy, or gravelly soils of open or lightly wooded areas. Dist: KS to CA south to TX and Mexico; disjunct in c. TN.
