Quercus myrtifolia Willdenow. Subgenus: Quercus. Section: Lobatae. Subsection: Phellos. Myrtle Oak. Phen: Feb-Mar; Sep (of the second year). Hab: Longleaf pine sandhills, Florida scrub (more commonly on yellow sands), oak scrub, dry flatwoods, coastal dunes. Dist: A Southeastern Coastal Plain endemic: se. SC south to s. FL, west to se. MS. Often a dominant on xeric yellow sands in c. FL, where when fire-suppressed, can form dominant scrubby thickets.
