Rhynchospora glomerata (Linnaeus) Vahl. Clustered Beaksedge. Phen: Jul-Sep. Hab: Pine savannas, bogs, acidic seeps inland, other wet habitats. Dist: S. NJ south to ne. FL, FL Panhandle, and west to e. TX, and inland in KY, TN, AR, and KS.

ID notes:A rather common beaksedge that should be learned by field botanists as a comparison point for other species. It is a coarser plant than R. capitellata, its spikelet clusters larger and tending to arch outward and often causing the stem to lean. Its achenes are much longer (1.5-2.0 mm vs. 1.2-1.5). In the West Gulf Coastal Plain, its distribution overlaps with that of R. angusta; see Rhynchospora key D.
