Polygonaceae A.L. de Jussieu. Smartweed Family.

Key to Polygonaceae

A family of about 50 genera and 1100-1200 species, trees, shrubs, vines, and herbs, cosmopolitan, but especially north temperate. Recent changes in the circumscription of various genera (including Polygonum, Persicaria, Fallopia, etc.) have received strong support from molecular phylogenetic studies (Kim & Donoghue 2008; Lamb Frye & Kron 2003; Schuster, Reveal, & Kron 2011; Zhang et al. 2023).
