Carex austrocaroliniana L.H. Bailey. Section: [26dd] Section 21 Careyanae. Common name: South Carolina Sedge. Phenology: Apr-May. Habitat: Nutrient-rich, moist coves in the sw. mountains of NC and adjacent SC, often with some seepage. Distribution: Endemic to the southern end of the Southern Appalachians, in the Blue Ridge of sw. NC, ne. SC, n. GA, and e. TN, extending west to the Cumberland Plateau of TN and se. KY.
