Carex chapmanii Steudel. Common name: Chapman's Sedge. Phenology: Apr-May. Habitat: Edges of calcareous pine savanna, calcareous slopes and bottomlands, mesic hammocks, stream terrace. Distribution: Se. NC south to c. peninsular FL, endemic to the Coastal Plain; initially listed as disjunct in nc. TN (Chester et al. 1993), but rejected thereafter (Tennessee Flora Committee 2015). The reported n. GA specimens (Union, Franklin, and Fannin counties) are also misidentifications.

Taxonomy Comments: The affinities of this species are questionable; it is usually placed in section Paniceae, but may actually belong to Laxiflorae.
