*Carex kobomugi Ohwi. Common name: Sea Isle Sedge, Japanese Beach Sedge, Asian Sand Sedge. Phenology: Mar-Jul. Habitat: Sand dunes, especially on fore-dunes. Distribution: Native of Japan.
ID notes: C. kobomugi is distinctive in its short stout culms, and its terminal, headlike, dioecious inflorescences. This species is planted as a stabilizer of coastal dunes.
