Carex platyphylla Carey. Common name: Broadleaf Sedge. Phenology: Apr-Jun. Habitat: Rich cove forests, mostly over mafic or calcareous rock. Distribution: Maine and s. Québec west to Wisconsin, south to , nw. South Carolina, North Carolina, e. Tennessee. An older record (1980) labeled as Howard Co., Missouri (just barely entering our flora area) was later corrected to Howard Co., Maryland (D. Soteropoulos, pers. comm.; 2025).

Taxonomy Comments: Naczi (1999b) reported a chromosome number of n = 35.
