Carex radfordii L.L. Gaddy. Common name: Radford's Sedge. Phenology: May-Jun. Habitat: Very nutrient-rich, moist cove forests in the Blue Ridge Escarpment region, over calcareous or mafic rocks (especially along the Brevard Fault). Distribution: Endemic to the Blue Ridge Escarpment of sw. NC, nw. SC, and ne. GA.

Taxonomy Comments: See Gaddy (1995) for additional information. Naczi (1999b) reported a different chromosome number for C. radfordii (n = 23) than for the related C. purpurifera (n = 17, 18, 19).
