Eleocharis bicolor Chapman. Subgenus: Eleocharis. Section: Eleocharis. Series: Tenuissimae. Phenology: Jun-Nov. Habitat: Moist sites, wet pine savannas. Distribution: AL and GA west to LA; West Indies; Central America; South America.

ID notes: Occasionally E. bicolor will have complete transverse septae which are apparently prominent when plants are growing aquatically; it is uncertain in these forms if reproductive culms are often also present or if vegetative culms predominate. Nonetheless, the culms are very diminutive (0.1-0.3 mm wide) and the spikelets are noticeably wider than culms, which differs markedly than the wider, obviously septate culms of those species in subgenus Limnochloa otherwise keyed in Key section B. This taxon can be distinguished from E. minima by the lower number of floral scales per mm, its biconvex achenes, and its lack of proliferous spikelets.
