ID notes: Rhynchospora recognita has been split off from R. globularis, differing in its taller stems (routinely growing to a meter or taller), longer seeds (1.4-1.8 mm vs. 1.3-1.5 mm), and wider leaves (up to 5 mm vs. up to 3 mm in R. globularis).

Taxonomy Comments: As explained by Kral (1999), this taxon warrants specific status. There is uncertainty regarding the application of the name R. cymosa; for now, we retain the more recently and widely used R. recognita.
