Habitat: Longleaf pine sandhills, dry pine flatwoods, glades, dry prairies, dry hammocks, dunes, sandy fields, roadsides, other disturbed habitats. Distribution: VA, TN, IL, and MO south to s. FL and TX; Mexico and Central America; West Indies.

Taxonomy Comments: Nichols et al. (2024) reevaluated the taxonomy of the Digitaria filiformis complex; we follow their decision to treat D. villosa at species rank.
