Schizachyrium hirtiflorum Nees. Hairy Crimson Bluestem. Phen: Aug-Nov. Hab: Pine flatwoods, longleaf pine sandhills, disturbed sandy sites. Dist: Sw. GA and FL west to AZ and south through Central America to South America; West Indies.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: We here interpret Schizachyrium hirtiflorum as the New World component , related to Old World S. sanguineum, but do not distinguish minor variations in pubescence of the glumes.
