*Sclerochloa dura (Linnaeus) Palisot de Beauvois. Common name: Hard Grass, Fairground Grass. Phenology: Feb-Apr. Habitat: Athletic fields, lawns, in gravel or compacted earth in agricultural fairgrounds. Distribution: NY (Westchester County) and s. ON westward; scattered s. to GA and further westward. Perhaps most commonly encountered in our region from w. NY and w. PA westward to IL. Native of Mediterranean Europe.
