Clematis socialis Kral. Common name: Alabama Leatherflower. Habitat: Wet calcareous flatwoods. Distribution: Nw. GA (Floyd Co.) and ne. AL (St. Clair and Cherokee counties). Recently discovered in Piedmont of GA (the population needing additional study).

Taxonomy Comments: Timmerman-Erskine & Boyd (1999) reported on the reproductive ecology of this endangered species; Goertzen & Boyd (2007) on its genetic diversity.
