not marked as a favorite taxon Ranunculus caricetorum Greene. Common name: Northern Swamp Buttercup, Marsh Buttercup. Phenology: Apr-Aug. Habitat: Swampy forests and marshes. Distribution: New Brunswick west to s. Manitoba, south to New Jersey, n. Virginia, s. Ohio, and s. Missouri; reports of this species farther south are probably in error.

Taxonomy Comments: This species is octoploid (n = 32); the remainder of the R. hispidus complex is tetraploid.
