Desmodium canescens (Linnaeus) A.P. de Candolle. Common name: Hoary Tick-trefoil. Phenology: Jun-Oct; Aug-Nov. Habitat: Fields, woodland borders, disturbed areas. Distribution: MA west to WI and NE, south to n. peninsular FL and TX.

Leaves: Leaves alternate; on petioles with hairy, clasping, oval stipules; divided into 3 hairy, oval leaflets with pointed tips.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers in branching, lax terminal and axillary spikes; pinkish-purple turning green or white; about 1/4 in. long; bilaterally symmetric and with typical pea-flower shape and a furry calyx tube.

Fruits: Fruit a hairy, flattened pod with constrictions between 4-6 seeds.
