not marked as a favorite taxon Desmodium lineatum A.P. de Candolle. Common name: Matted Tick-trefoil. Phenology: Jun-Sep; Aug-Oct. Habitat: Longleaf pine sandhills and other dry forests and woodlands. Distribution: Se. MD south to n. peninsular FL, west to TX, rarely inland; reported for NLE (Villaseñor 2016).

Stems: Stems prostrate, branched, marked with lines and usually densely furry.

Leaves: Leaves alternate; on petioles with short, lance-shaped stipules; divided into 3 broadly oval to rounded leaflets with hairy margins but mostly smooth surfaces.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers in lax, terminal and upper axillary panicles covered with hooked hairs; purple to reddish-purple; 1/4 in. or less long; bilaterally symmetric and with typical pea-flower shape.

Fruits: Fruit a flattened pod with constrictions between 2-4 seeds, covered with hooked hairs that stick to clothing and fur.
