*Indigofera tinctoria Linnaeus. Common name: African Indigo. Phenology: Jan-Dec. Habitat: Formerly commonly cultivated, locally established as a weed at that time, perhaps no longer present in northern parts of our area, but persistent as a weed in southern Florida. Distribution: Native of Africa. Both this species and I. suffruticosa were cultivated as an important export crop in the Coastal Plain of GA, SC, and (less so) NC in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
