Crataegus ashei Beadle. Common name: Ashe Hawthorn. Phenology: Apr. Habitat: Prairies, hardwood forests, pine-hardwood flats, especially over calcareous clay soils. Distribution: Core of range is central MS, where this species is locally common in Scott and Smith counties; sporadic in c. and s. AL, e. LA, se. AR (s. TN ?). A few records from Caldwell Parish, LA need validation.
