Taxonomy Comments: A shrubby, infrequently seen member of Series Pulcherrimae, differing from C. pulcherrima by its small leaves with fine, obtuse serrations, shallow or no lobes, and sparse adaxial hairs on midvein in spring. Plants recently found in Greenville Co, SC with abundant elliptical, unlobed leaves are provisionally assigned to this species.
