Geum canadense Jacquin. Common name: White Avens. Phenology: May-Jul; Jul-Nov. Habitat: Moist slope forests, bottomland forests, swamp forests, tidal swamps, rarely in submesic forests. Distribution: NS west to ND, south to c. GA and TX; allegedly disjunct in Mexico (Villaseñor 2016).

Horticultural Information
Intro: Weakly erect perennial found in moist slope forests, bottomland forests and swamp forests.
Stems: Stems arising from a basal rosette to 6 in. wide, hairy; lower stem brownish-green.
Leaves: Basal leaves flat to ground, on petioles with stipules at the base, variably shaped from unlobed to 3-lobed or palmately divided into diamond-shaped segments; stem leaves alternate, to 4 in. long, 3- to 5-lobed or divided; upper stem leaves usually sessile, undivided and smaller.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Flowers in a terminal leafy panicle, 1-3 flowers per primary branch; white; about 1/2 in. wide; consisting of 5 spreading oblong petals, 5 slightly shorter triangular sepals and numerous stamens surrounding a green domed ovary covered with styles.
Fruits: Fruit a bristly, round head of many beaked achenes.
