Prunus alleghaniensis T.C. Porter var. alleghaniensis. Subgenus: Prunus. Common name: Allegheny Plum, Allegheny Sloe. Habitat: Dry rocky woodlands, shale barrens, primarily over calcareous or mafic rocks. Distribution: Broadly Appalachian: MA and NY south to w. VA, w. NC, and e. TN.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: Var. davisii (W. Wight) Sargent is endemic to MI.
Other Comments: Prunus alleghaniensis is generally considered difficult to distinguish from P. umbellata other than by distribution, and is lumped there by Rohrer (2014b) in FNA9.
