Rubus strigosus Michaux var. strigosus . Common name: American Red Raspberry. Phenology: Jun-Aug; Jul-Sep. Habitat: High elevation forests and thickets, adelgid-killed spruce-fir forests, northwards at lower elevations and more general in habitat. Distribution: NL (Newfoundland) west to AK, south to PA, IN, IA, and AZ; disjunct farther south in nw. VA and ne. WV, and in w. NC and e. TN.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: This taxon has often been treated as an infrataxon of R. idaeus, but warrants species rank. It is more closely related to R. sachalinensis than to R. idaeus (Carter et al. 2019). In eastern North America, we have R. strigosus var. strigosus; western North America has different varieties of native R. strigosus.
