Hab: Hardwood flatwoods, bottomland forests, swamps, sinkhole ponds, sloughs, wet prairies, upland sag ponds; also widely planted as a street tree in towns and cities. Dist: MA and NY west to se. IA and e. KS, south to c. NC, nw. GA, sc. TN, n. AR, and e. OK.
