*Populus ×jackii Sargent. Phen: Apr. Hab: Bottomlands, riverbanks, streambanks, spread from cultivation. Dist: P. ×jackii is locally abundant along the New River in Watauga, Ashe, and Alleghany counties, NC and downstream into VA.

Taxonomy Comments: This cultivar is of uncertain origin, considered by some to be a hybrid P. balsamifera × deltoides, by others to be an atypical pistillate clone of P. balsamifera Linnaeus. The cultivar 'gileadensis' is distinguished from the typical form by the petioles densely and stiffly pubescent (vs. petioles glabrous).
