not marked as a favorite taxon Viola villosa Walter. Common name: Southern Woolly Violet. Phenology: (Late Dec-) Feb-early Apr. Habitat: Pocosin ecotones, other sites with moist soils, rocky or sandy oak-pine woodlands or wooded slopes. Distribution: NC south to n. peninsular FL, west to TX and OK. Reported for VA by Kartesz (1999), on the basis of Massey (1961); report requiring additional documentation.
