Viola villosa Walter. Section: Nosphinium. Subsection: Borealiamericanae. Southern Woolly Violet. Phen: (Late Dec-) Feb-early Apr. Hab: Pocosin ecotones, other sites with moist soils, rocky or sandy oak-pine woodlands or wooded slopes. Dist: NC south to n. peninsular FL, west to TX and OK. Reported for VA by Kartesz (1999), on the basis of Massey (1961); report requiring additional documentation.
