Intro: A diffusely ascending to sprawling annual/biennial of roadsides, pastures and other open, disturbed areas. Native of Europe.
Stems: Stems several from the base, covered with hairs laying close to the stem.
Leaves: Leaves alternate, petiolate, kidney-shaped but palmately divided into 5-7 lobes, these again deeply and narrowly cleft into linear lobes; hairy at least above.

Flowers: Flowers in pairs on stalks from leaf axils, purplish-pink, vaguely funnel-shaped, with 5 shallowly notched petals and 5 sepals with a spine at the tip.
Fruits: Fruit a long-beaked capsule that splits into 5 pieces curling upward.
