*Acer palmatum Thunberg ssp. palmatum. Common name: Japanese Maple. Phenology: Apr-May; Aug-Sep. Habitat: Suburban woodlands. Distribution: Native of e. Asia. Frequently planted in its numerous cultivars. Serviss & Serviss (2022) documented its naturalization in AR. It is also reported as escaped in the DC area (Shetler & Orli 2000).
Origin/Endemic status: E. and se. Asia
Taxonomy Comments: Infraspecific taxa are recognized in its native area; only ssp. palmatum appears to be cultivated and escaped in e. North America.
