Horticultural Information

Intro: Mat-forming, bushy perennial of dry oak-pine forests, dry roadsides and other openings.

Stems: Stems with short, spreading branches and covered with fine, ascending hairs.

Leaves: Stem leaves alternate, 1/4-3/4 in. long, needle-thin and more than 10 times as long as wide, sparsely hairy beneath; on basal shoots, leaves linear, to 3 in. long and crowded on the stem.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers on numerous spreading axillary branches in the upper 1/2 of the plant, brown or reddish, 1/16 in. long or less, with 3 tiny petals that are shorter than the 5 sepals.

Fruits: Fruit an oval capsule, completely enclosed by the hairy sepals.
