Lechea torreyi Leggett ex Britton var. congesta Hodgdon ex Lemke. Common name: Sandhill Pinweed. Phenology: Jun-Jul; Aug-Oct. Habitat: Longleaf pine sandhills and wet pine flatwoods. Distribution: As interpreted by Hodgdon, L. torreyi consists of two varieties, the more widespread var. congesta ranging from se. NC south to s. FL and west to s. MS (disjunct in Belize), and the more restricted var. torreyi restricted to FL.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: Wilbur & Daoud (1961) expressed doubt about the validity of the two varieties, but presented little evidence for or against their recognition. Lemke (2014) supported varietal status and validated the name.
