Polygonella croomii Chapman. Common name: Carolina October-flower. Phenology: Aug-Oct; Oct-Nov. Habitat: Longleaf pine sandhills, primarily in the fall-line Sandhills and middle Coastal Plain. Distribution: Se. and sc. NC south to SC and GA.

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: This taxon seems very distinct and warrants specific rank.

Other Comments: P. croomii occurs mainly in the fall-line Sandhills, scattered as well in the middle Coastal Plain (Robeson and Bladen counties, NC, Chesterfield, Dillon, Darlington, and Lee counties, SC) and rarely the outer Coastal Plain (New Hanover County, NC).
