plant sale text: This southeastern native phlox is vigorous and showy, producing panicles of bright pink flowers that appear just as the blooms of Phlox divaricata have faded. Cut this species back following flowering to encourage repeat blooming. Overtime smooth phlox spreads to forms sizeable clusters. In the wild, this species is found growing in wet meadows and prairies and in open woodlands. Smooth phlox tolerates more soil moisture than most Phlox species. Mulch around the plant in the summer to increase soil moisture retention and to help keep the root zone cool.
