*Lonicera japonica Thunberg. Japanese Honeysuckle. Phen: (Mar-) Apr-Jun; Aug-Oct. Hab: Nearly ubiquitous, especially common in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain and in mesic habitats. Dist: Native of e. Asia.

ID notes: Distinguished readily from L. sempervirens by its often pubescent stems (vs. glabrous).

Origin/Endemic status: E. and se. Asia

Other Comments: Schweitzer & Larson (1999) reported on the physiological characteristics that make L. japonica a successful invasive species, namely morphological plasticity and climbing resource allocation.
