Potamogeton alpinus Balbis. Common name: Red Pondweed, Alpine Pondweed. Phenology: Jul-Sep. Habitat: Ponds and slow-moving streams. Distribution: Circumboreal, south in North America to PA, MI, WI, MN, SD, NM, AZ, and CA.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: The American plants are sometimes separated as var. tenuifolius from Eurasian var. alpinus based on narrower leaves and the fruit beak more curved.
