Gaultheria hispidula (Linnaeus) Muhlenberg ex Bigelow. Common name: Creeping Snowberry, Moxie. Phenology: May-Jun (-Jul); Sep. Habitat: Spruce-fir forests, northern hardwoods forests, bogs at high elevations. Distribution: NL (Newfoundland) and NL (Labrador) west to BC, south to NJ, MD, WV, OH, MN, ID, and WA; there is no known documentation for the attribution (by Small 1933, Gleason & Cronquist 1952, 1991, and Fernald 1950) of this species occurring as far south as NC.
