Gaylussacia frondosa (Linnaeus) Torrey & A. Gray ex Torrey. Common name: Dangleberry. Phenology: Late Mar-May; Jun-Aug. Habitat: Mesic, acidic woodlands, especially in sandhill-pocosin and savanna-pocosin ecotone, also in xeric chestnut oak forests in the lower Piedmont. Distribution: Primarily a Southeastern Coastal Plain species: s. NH south to s. SC, less commonly inland to w. NY, c. and w. PA, w. VA, and w. SC.
