Lyonia ferruginea (Walter) Nuttall. Common name: Crookedwood, Dragonwood, Staggerbush. Phenology: Feb-May; Apr-Oct. Habitat: Dry oak and pine woodlands, Florida scrub, scrubby pine flatwoods, rarely pocosins, spodosolic flatwoods. Tending to occur in more often in xeric or well-drained soils (when co-occuring with L. fruticosa). Distribution: Se. South Carolina south to sc. peninsular Florida, west to Panhandle Florida.
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: See discussion under L. fruticosa for notes on distinguishing the two taxa. Villaseñor (2016) treated L. ferruginea as disjunct in se. Mexico (CHP, HID, OAX, PUE, VER), but these populations were treated by (Judd (1981) as L. squamulosa, a decision followed here.
