Sabatia dodecandra (Linnaeus) Britton, Sterns, & Poggenburg. Common name: Perennial Sea-pink, Large Marsh Rose-pink. Phenology: Jun-Aug; Aug-Oct. Habitat: Tidal brackish and freshwater marshes. Distribution: CT south to e. SC and e. GA (Sorrie 1998b); disjunct in Panhandle FL.

Stems: Stem vaguely 4-angled, with alternate branches above the middle, smooth.

Leaves: Leaves opposite, sessile, elliptic to lance-shaped, to 1 1/2 in. long; a basal rosette of leaves is sometimes present.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers in an open, few-flowered panicle; bright pink; to 2 in. wide; consisting of 8-11 spreading, oblong-oval petals with basal markings that create a red-outlined yellow star in the flower center and 8-11 shorter, linear to spoon-shaped sepals.

Fruits: Fruit an ovoid to ellipsoid capsule.
