Sabatia stellaris Pursh. Common name: Annual Sea-pink. Phenology: Jul-Oct; Aug-late Nov. Habitat: Brackish marshes, maritime wet grasslands. Distribution: S. MA south to s. FL, west to LA; Bahamas; Cuba; c. Mexico.

Stems: Stems usually square, often branched, smooth.

Leaves: Leaves opposite, sessile, narrowly elliptic to oblong, to 1 in. long; some basal leaves may be present.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers few to many in open panicle or solitary terminating the stem; pink (sometimes white); consisting of 5 spreading oblong to oblong-oval petals with basal markings that create a red-rimmed yellow "eye" (star) in the center of the flower and shorter, linear sepals.

Fruits: Fruit an ellipsoid to ovoid capsule.
