Stylisma aquatica (Walter) Rafinesque. Water Dawnflower. Phen: (May-) Jun-Jul (-Aug). Hab: Clay-based Carolina bays, wet pine savannas, margins of pineland ponds (vernal pools). Dist: Se. and sc. NC south to c. FL and Panhandle FL, west to se. AR and e. TX.

ID notes:Stylisma aquatica, as the epithet implies, occurs in wetter (or at least moister) habitats than our other species. The bright pink flowers and densely silvery-hairy leaves are distinctive.
