Physalis acutifolia (Miers) Sandwith. Phenology: (May-) Jul-Nov. Habitat: Disturbed areas. Distribution: Native of sw. United States south into Mexico. Collected once in NC (in 1936), from a nursery in Mecklenburg County, NC, in MS (Sullivan 2004), and in nw. GA (the basis of the report of P. missouriensis in Jones & Coile 1988). It may not be established.
ID notes: Physalis acutifolia is most similar to P. angulata, but differs in its white to cream-colored corollas, with yellow basal spots, and the presence of 5 hairy pads, alternating with the stamens near the base of the corolla limb.
