Hab: Clay soils in low woods, seeps on sandstone or granitic rocks, in NJ in clay-based depressions on Cape May. Dist: VA south (in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain) to sw. GA, sc. AL, and s. MS; disjunct in s. NJ.
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: A diploid species (2n=22), genotype= PP. This taxon should be raised to species rank based on the polyphyly of Isoetes melanopoda s.l. (Schafran et al. 2018).
