Isoetes melanopoda Gay & Durieu ex Durieu ssp. silvatica D.F. Brunton & D.M. Britton. Common name: Eastern Blackfoot Quillwort. Habitat: Clay soils in low wood, seep on sandstone or granitic rocks, in NJ in clay-based depressions on Cape May. Distribution: VA south (in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain) to sw. GA, sc. AL, and s. MS; disjunct in s. NJ.

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Taxonomy Comments: A diploid species (2n=22), genotype= PP. This taxon should be raised to species rank based on the polyphyly of Isoetes melanopoda s.l. (Schafran et al. 2018).

Synonymy : = K4, NS, POWO; < Isoetes melanopoda Gay & Durieu ex Durieu — AqW, C, FNA2, G, RAB, S13, Va, Musselman (2001). Basionym: Isoetes melanopoda Gay & Durieu ex Durieu ssp. silvatica D.F.Brunt. & D.M.Britton 2006
