Proboscidea louisiana (P. Miller) Thellung ssp. louisiana . Common name: Unicorn-plant, Devil's-claw, Cow Catcher. Phenology: Jun-Sep. Habitat: Disturbed areas, pastures. Distribution: Native of the US Great Plains south to sc. Mexico; populations eastwards are adventive.

ID notes: The curious fruits are unmistakable.
